Long lining:
Is of great benefit whether you wish to use it to get a youngster ready for backing, to exercise your horse if it is unable to be ridden and to work your horse. You can lunge with two lines in this way, work the horse at your side or in front of you in walk, trot, canter and also with lateral work. You can use a saddle or roller and have the lines along the horses side or through the top ring of a roller although the latter does require more coordination and experience in long lining from the handler! All our horses are worked regularly in this way as it is very useful, all are established in shoulder in. Holly is the most advanced and is established in shoulder in and leg yield in walk and trot, spanish walk and is also offering pirouettes in canter.

Please click on the arrows below twice to view each video that was taken in 2006, you will see the grey horse Holly learning spanish walk and shoulder in on the long lines.

Basic long lining

In hand:
In hand work is a fantastic education for the horse, you can teach them all the lateral movements from the ground with precision and without the added distraction of the rider. Then once the horse is ridden their education is already in place and they are stronger in their muscles to carry a rider making life easier for you both. In hand work can also be a useful training aid for the rider to gain feel when first learning lateral work. All our horses are established in rein back, turn on the forehand, shoulder in, leg yield, pirouettes and travers and Holly is also established in half pass and spanish walk. All our horses are continously advancing in their individual education as time progresses.

Lungeing:
Lungeing is very popular and commonly used. Our horses are all very used to working in this way with side reins and some with the pessoa. You are able to improve your horses response to your voice working them through progressive, direct and within the pace transitions from halt, walk, trot and canter. You can also jump your horse on the lunge.

Clicker training:
Clicker training is very useful in training for pinpointing exactly what is correct, making it very clear to the horse. The horses very quickly understand what is required and their performance improves no end, it is a fantastic tool whether you want to add some variation to your horses life or wish to use it for your horses education. You can use clicker training out hacking, whilst riding, lungeing and long lining it really is up to you, there are no limits.
